About The College

Priyadarshini Dnyan Prabodhini Sanstha established this Law College at Phaltan in 1991 with three years LL.B. Course under the able guidance of Late.Barrister Raja S. Bhonsale, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, Former Advocate General of Maharashtra., Judge, Bombay High Court, who made untiring efforts to dedicate this institution for upliftment of legal education in and around Phaltan. The college is affiliated to the Shivaji University,Kolhapur and approved by the Bar Council of India, NewDelhi., Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa and the Government of Maharashtra. The college is admitted to government grant in aid from1stApril1995. The college has been accredited 'B' Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)., Bangalore, an autonomous institution the University Grants Commission (UGC) in September2004 and also enlisted as one of the lead colleges among the colleges affiliated to the Shivaji University in July2005. (Vide Shivaji University letterNo.SU/NAAC/LC/DO/DBCUD/2921/3317 dated 04.07.2005) This Law college is the first and the only Law college in the Phaltan Taluka.

Initially,the college started functioning in June1991 i.e.form the academic year1991-1992 withThreeYearLL.B.Course on no grant basis in the premises of the Mudhoji High School run by the Phaltan Education Society. Late Shrimant Shivajiraje NaikNimbalkar,the then General Secretary of the Phaltan Education Society,who had great love and affection towards the founder,Barrister RajaS. Bhonsale, generously and readily agreed to provide/allot required premises in the Mudhoji High School campus to run the Law College, In1999,the college was shifted to rented buildingin Vivekanandnagar. Later, in 2003, the college was shifted to the Phaltan Nagar Parishad's rental building located at Shankar Market. In 2008, the College has been shifted to its spacious own building constructed in an area of one acre and two gunthas in the heart of the town, GirviNaka, behind the City Building. The Law college provides two courses namely, the Three Year Law Course and the Five Year Law Course. The Three Year Law Course is100% grantable., while the Five Year Law Course, which was started in 2001 (i.e.from the academic year 2001-2002) is permanently non- grantable.In strict compliance to the directions of the NAAC, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post accreditation quality sustenance activity was established in October, 2004 to improve the academic and administrative performance of the institution. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the institution meets periodically to discuss at length various multi input activities for quality enhancement and to take all necessary steps to implement the guidelines of the NAAC. We have also sent the Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQARs) to the NAAC from the time to time. The earlier Peer Team, headed by Prof. V.B.Continoh, Chairman (the then Vice- Chancellor, Gulbarga University, Gulbarga, Karnataka State)., Prof. A.M.Alur, Member (the then Visiting Professor, National Law School of India University, Bangalore)., Prof T. Satyamurthy, member co-ordinator, (the then Principal, National College of Law, Shigoma, Karnataka) visited our institution for two days on 12/07/2004 and 13/07/2004 in connection with the accreditation process interacted at length with all the concerned viz. the Management, Principal, Teachers, Non-Teaching Staff, Students, Students Parents and other concerned separately and personally. They thoroughly examined the self study report and all the relevant documents/records and pleased to note the successful results of the institution and gave a positive report, conferring ‘B’ Grade to our institution. This time also, we are very hopeful and trust that the ensuing Peer Team designed for reaccreditation of our institution will express satisfaction over the growth and development of the institution in all respects.

To provide affordable legal education to rural and economically backward students, especially those unable to pursue studies in urban centers.

To raise legal awareness among women and rural populations about their rights, duties, and protections against social evils such as dowry, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and untouchability.

To encourage active student participation in curricular and extra-curricular activities like debates, moot court competitions, sports, legal aid camps, and literacy programs.

To instill in students social and moral values, promote socio-economic equality, unity, integrity, and national fraternity.

To educate people on their human rights, fundamental rights, and the democratic principles to build strong legal consciousness and responsible citizenship.

To create legal awareness among Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other backward communities about their constitutional rights and entitlements.

To promote peaceful academic surroundings through alternative dispute resolution methods like arbitration, conciliation, and collective bargaining.

To support law graduates in preparing for competitive examinations such as MPSC (J.M.F.C.), UPSC, LIC, and banking exams.

To instill a deep understanding of the legal profession and the integral roles of the bench and bar in justice delivery.

To expose students to principles of international law and global legal issues including the law of the sea, extradition, asylum, outer space, and environmental law as addressed in major UN conferences.
